Abstract
Die Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden besitzt ein Ölbild, das dem Paduaner Gemäldemaler und Freskanten Gualtiero Padovano (ca. 1510–1552) zugeschrieben wird. In diesem Gemälde sitzt eine mit Lorbeer bekränzte junge Frau auf einem erhöhten Thron. Sie wie auch ihre sieben weiblichen und zwei männlichen Begleiter, die sich halbkreisförmig um ihr Podest versammelt haben, sind in antikisierende, faltenreiche Gewänder gehüllt. Die sitzende Frau entnimmt als Hauptfigur des Bildes mit ihrer Linken Münzen aus einer dargereichten Schale und reicht diese einer zu ihrer Rechten stehenden Frau. Von der Forschung wurde die in den Katalogen der Dresdner Gemäldegalerie seit 1765 eingebürgerte Bezeichnung des Bildes als „Allegorie der Freigebigkeit“ bisher fortgeschrieben. Der vorliegende Aufsatz bietet nun eine Neuinterpretation dieses wichtigen Gemäldes von Gualtiero Padovano an: Dargestellt ist das Thema "Pecunia und die Münzprägung". Darüber hinaus kann der Aufsatz wahrscheinlich machen, dass das Bild im 16. Jahrhundert Teil der bedeutenden Kunstsammlung des Paduaner Humanisten und Sammlers Marco Mantova Benavides war. Indem das Gemälde thematisch auf die bei Benavides ausgestellte Antikenkollektion reagierte, bildet es ein wichtiges Zeugnis für die Verbindung von Ausstellen, Illustrieren und Kommentieren in der Renaissance und ergänzt innerhalb der ebenfalls auf eine Kunstkammer zurückgehenden Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister eindrucksvoll das Bild, welches wir von den Anfängen musealer Präsentations- und Reflexionsformen haben.
Der Aufsatz ist die erweiterte und ins Italienische übersetzte Fassung eines Beitrags, der 2014 in den Dresdener Kunstblättern erschien.
Translation of abstract (English)
The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden owns an oil painting attributed to the Paduan painter and fresco artist Gualtiero Padovano (ca. 1510-1552). In this painting, a young woman crowned with laurel sits on a raised throne. She and her seven female and two male companions, who have gathered in a semicircle around her pedestal, are clad in antique-style, pleated robes. The seated woman, the main figure in the picture, is taking coins from a bowl with her left hand and handing them to a woman standing to her right. The description of the painting as an "allegory of generosity", which has been used in the catalogs of the Dresden Gemäldegalerie since 1765, has so far been perpetuated by scholars. This essay now offers a new interpretation of this important painting by Gualtiero Padovano: The theme depicted is "Pecunia and the coinage". Furthermore, the essay makes it likely that the painting was part of the important art collection of the Paduan humanist and collector Marco Mantova Benavides in the 16th century. By responding thematically to the collection of antiquities exhibited at Benavides, the painting forms an important testimony to the combination of exhibiting, illustrating and commenting in the Renaissance and impressively complements the picture we have of the beginnings of museum forms of presentation and reflection within the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, which also goes back to a Kunstkammer.
The essay is an expanded version, translated into Italian, of an article that was published in the Dresdener Kunstblätter in 2014.
