Abstract
A term widely familiar to antiquarian scholars is used in the name of the Antiquitatum Thesaurus project. Thesaurus, derived from the Greek thesaurós, fundamentally means "deposit" or "warehouse." Over time, it has come to refer to collective works, including large collections of antiquities, often characterized by distinct features. This article traces the history of the term and its usage in the modern era within the context of antiquarian publications. Additionally, it aims to clarify the common characteristics of works titled Thesaurus, from the Middle Ages to the ongoing project at the Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften.
