Abstract
Der Aufsatz behandelt das Kapitel "de imaginibus" in der Summa de bono Philipps des Kanzlers. Die "ratio triplex" für den kirchlichen Gebrauch von Bildern, die zum ersten Mal bei Philipp zu finden ist, wird als ein Versuch gedeutet, die Rudimente des griechischen Bilddiskurses, wie Johannes von Damaskos sie vermittelte, mit der augustinischen Trinitätslehre abzustimmen. Nach dieser Deutung spielte das gregorianische Diktum, die Bilder seien die Schrift der Ungebildeten, in der hochscholastischen Summenliteratur keinerlei Rolle, und die Frage, wie berechtigt man über eine kohäsive Bildtheorie oder Bildauffassung des mittelalterlichen Westens reden kann, soll neu gestellt werden.
Translation of abstract (English)
The article examines the chapter "de imaginibus" in the "Summa de bono" of Philip the Chancellor. The author interprets the "ratio triplex" for the ecclesiastical use of images, formulated by Philip for the first time, as an attempt to reconcile rudiments of the Greek discourse on images, as imparted by John Damascene, with Augustine’s theology of the Trinity. According to this interpretation, the Gregorian dictum on images as writing for the illiterate played no role in High Scholastic summas, and we have to reconsider the question how legitimate is to talk about a cohesive theory or conception of the image in the Medieval West.
