Abstract

The examination of the neutrinoless double beta decay allows to set stringent limits on hypothetical decay modes and therefore on Physics Beyond the Standard Model. Especially conclusions on the mass of the neutrino are possible. In the Heidelberg-Moscow-Experiment the double-beta decay of Ge76 is examined. Because double beta decay has a very large half-life it is important to maximize the source strength and to minimize the background. For a maximal source strength and a high detection efficiency five high-purity germanium-detectors are used which consist of enriched Ge76; hence they work as source and detector at the same time. With a source strength of 125.5 mol Ge76 the Heidelberg-Moscow-Experiment possesses the largest source strength at present of all $\beta\beta$-experiments worldwide. Different statistical methods are used and compared. The data of the Heidelberg-Moscow-Experiment from August 1990 to May 2000 has been analyzed. They confirm the existence of the neutrinoless double-beta decay at a large confidence level.
