Translation of abstract (English)
The present article discusses fragments of Post-Byzantine wall paintings (1540s) from Saint Onuphrius Church in Lavriv, lost after their discovery (1910) in the course of the 20th century. Having analysed archival photographs of these fragments, the author proposes new iconographic reading of the paintings. The scene on the north wall (Adoration of an icon) – formerly assumed to be an illustration of the 24th stanza of the Akathistos cycle – now has been identified as an illustration of the 17th stanza. The scene on the west wall, formerly assumed to be the Last Judgement, now has been linked with the Akathistos cycle (illustration of the 11th stanza). This reassessment allows for a new reconstruction of the layout of the Akathistos cycle on the walls of Saint Onuphrius Church in Lavriv: 1) the cycle was located not only on the south and north walls (as previously considered), but also on the west wall; 2) on the north wall the sequence of scenes unfolded not from west to east (as was previously suggested) but from east to west.
