Abstract
This article argues that the drawing of the Fight for the Standard after Leonardo da Vinci’s wall painting of the Battle of Anghiari, traditionally attributed to Rubens (Paris, Louvre), was executed in the first half of the 16th c., and that this drawing and two of its early copies, produced before Rubens made the alterations, should be regarded as authentic reproductions after Leonardo's incomplete original version of the central group from the wall painting of the Battle of Anghiari in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
