Abstract
This article is about Michelangelo's ceiling paintings in the Sistine Chapel and their written sources. I argue that the iconography of the fresco can be explained almost entirely with the help of the Bible and that the interpretation of other, often remote sources is not necessary for an understanding of Michelangelo's painting.
