Abstract
In this article, I argue that Leonardo on the one hand and Michelangelo on the other represent two different types of artists. Leonardo corresponded more to the type of artist who was dependent on the conditions of his commissions, while Michelangelo had already emancipated himself to a great extent from these conditions. In contrast to Leonardo, he had the freedom to be more of an expressive artist.
