Abstract
This publication discusses the most important variants and copies of Leonardo's ‘Battle of Anghiari’, which are also listed in full and briefly acknowledged in an appendix. Based on textual sources (Lorenzo Spirito) and formal models, the author also explains the political iconography of Leonardo's mural and its historical background
