Abstract

Die Ausstellung "Scenes from the Invention of Democracy" im Museum Tinguely, Basel (24.9.2025 – 1.3.2026) widmet sich dem Schaffen des österreichischen Künstlers Oliver Ressler, der seit vielen Jahren an der Schnittstelle von Kunst und Aktivismus agiert. Im Zentrum der präsentierten Videoarbeiten stehen politische, soziale und ökologische Fragestellungen, die angesichts der Klimakrise und des weltweit zunehmenden Autoritarismus besondere Dringlichkeit und hohe Aktualität aufweisen. Im ausstellungsbegleitenden Katalog beleuchten Essays von Tabea Panizzi und Anthony Elms sowie ein Gespräch zwischen Oliver Ressler und Tabea Panizzi die Werke im Kontext aktueller Diskurse und Entwicklungen.

Translation of abstract (English)

The exhibition "Scenes from the Invention of Democracy" at the Museum Tinguely, Basel (24 September 2025 – 1 March 2026) is dedicated to the work of Austrian artist Oliver Ressler, who has been operating at the intersection of art and activism for many years. The video works on display focus on political, social and ecological issues that are particularly urgent and highly topical in view of the climate crisis and the rise of authoritarianism worldwide. This exhibition catalogue contains essays by Tabea Panizzi and Anthony Elms as well as a conversation between Oliver Ressler and Tabea Panizzi, shedding light on the works in the context of current discourses and developments.
