Abstract
Translation of abstract (English)
In his paintings, Johann Heinrich Schönfeld frequently used types of figures full of dramatic expression, in variants. The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart has a large group of drawings by, after and around Schönfeld, 14 of them autograph. Two drawings, attributed to Schönfeld’s assistant Gabriel Ehinger, look like studies of models from life. This raises the question of the role of figure studies in Schönfeld’s work. Though the answer tends to be negative, it remains to be discussed what functions these drawings had.
